David Girardi, a former Geneva College quarterback, had a successful playing career over his four years on College Hill. Girardi has since started to advance in the coaching ranks, and this month the Kansas City Chiefs signed him as an offensive quality control coach.
Who is Dave Girardi Kansas City Chiefs?
After three seasons as an offensive quality control coach, David Girardi begins his second season with the Chiefs in 2022 as the pass game analyst/assistant quarterbacks coach.
Girardi contributed to the Chiefs offense’s sixth consecutive division triumph and a fourth consecutive trip to the AFC Championship game in 2021.
He has a close relationship with the quarterbacks, and Patrick Mahomes, who was nominated for his fourth Pro Bowl, threw for 4,839 yards and 37 touchdowns this season while completing 66.3 percent of his passes.
Girardi will have the chance to work with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ first-round draft pick in 2017, who will replace the late starter Alex Smith as the starting quarterback in Kansas City, as well as with renowned NFL head coach Andy Reid.
The appointment is another intriguing instance of how Geneva College and Kansas and Kansas City sports clubs are connected. Mark Mangino, a former assistant football coach at Geneva, was hired by the University of Kansas in 2002. In 2008, he guided the Jayhawks to an Orange Bowl triumph.
Kris Griffin, a former Geneva football player who was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2005, soon established himself as a consistent member of the linebackers unit.
